"At age six, I ran away with my sister to escape the Rwandan massacre. We spent seven years as refugees. What do you want me to do about it? Cry"? A excerpt from Ms. Wamariya's story Everything is Yours, Everything in Not Yours, which I urge everyone to take time out and read. You can read it here. While reading her story, I cried, I laughed, I got anxious but most importantly, I was extremely inspired. Ms Wamariya reminds us that, things happen in life that we have no control of but, how we handle the situation, determines our outcome. Ms. Wamariya decided to utilize her experiences as a way to inspire people. Her past experience as a genocide survivor and a refugee, has been a source of hope to many. She eventually received her BA in Comparative Literature from Yale University. She was appointed by President Barack Obama to the U.S. Holocaust Museum Board. She is also an advisory board member at Refugee Transitions and currently sits on the board of Women for Women International. In addition to that, Ms. Wamariya is a Motivational Speaker, a Storyteller and a Human Rights advocate. I follow Ms. Wamariya on most of her social media pages such as Instagram and twitter. Every time I see a tweet or a an image, it reminds me of the potential I have within me. In addition, she seems like a sweet person and I would love to one day converse over tea. This is why Ms. Wamariya is the Woman of the World this week. I hope she inspires you as much as she inspires me.
