Last week on WOW, We visited East Africa and this time around, I decided to bring it down to Southern Africa. I promise I will be visiting the whole world :). In the spirit of mentor talk, I decided to feature Ms. Zoe Dean Smith. Ms. Smith is the Senior Director of Global Programs at Vital Voices. Vital Voices is an NGO whose mission is to "Identify, invest in and bring visibility to extraordinary women around the world by unleashing their leadership potential to transform lives and accelerate peace and prosperity in their communities". Ms. Smith manages the Global ambassador program. It is a mentoring program partnering high level women mentors to emerging leaders mentees. It's a great initiative and you can read all about it here.
The reason I selected Ms. Smith for this weeks WOW is because of the wonderful mentoring program she started in her native home of Swaziland. This was the first thing I found while research on young African women and mentoring. Her program popped up and I started searching for more. Providing opportunities for young Swazi girls to learn and be inspired by others, in order to improve their lives is just wonderful. That program has been an inspiration for me, to mirror something as such in Cameroon. Sometimes, the smallest things make the biggest impact. I have been privilege to actually meet and speak with this lovely lady. What an inspiration and I can't wait to one day invite her to speak at my mentoring program.
You can follow her on twitter for updates.
